A Sense of Community on Radio Winchcombe

A Sense of Community
The pre recorded show explores an individual's life, experiences and reflections. It generally includes a sense of community and what that means to them. How we make connections with others and what is important to us as people. There is often conversation about location or place and how that may be important to the interview.
I am always looking for those who have made a difference, worked in vocational settings, mental health and illness and volunteer roles where there is something about giving back.

Amy Martin Dec 2025
In an increasingly polarised world community has never felt more important. In this conversation I talk to Amy Martin about the importance of community for support and our wellbeing. We explore what prevents us from asking for help and the benefits to both parties from successful partnerships both in the veterinary world and more broadly. So, whether in an organisation, volunteer group, club or friendship - how can we cultivate more community for the benefit of all?
Gilly Turner Orchard Manager for Bulmer’s Cider in Herefordshire. January 2026
Gilly has been orchard manager for Bulmer’s for 30 years and talks about her life and the joys of apple orchards as well as some insights in to the production of cider. We also touch on mental health and the importance of support in rural communities, including the charity We Are Farming Minds.
Emma Smith Cofounder Streethearts Bulgaria February 2026
Emma spoke openly about her life before Street Hearts BG, including her years working as both a nurse and a police officer, and how our organisation didn't begin with a grand plan, but simply with the dogs in front of her who needed help.
Over time, one case became another, and what started as a refusal to look away grew into a decade of sustained rescue, rehabilitation, and change. It's an honest and reflective interview, and a reminder that behind every organisation is a person who made a choice to act!
